I’m a pain patient, with no history of addiction who has been using the 5mcg Butrans patch for almost 8 years. My doctor retired, and the new doctor I found wants me to go cold turkey. She said there is no way to “taper” when I’m already at the lowest dosage, and they only prescribe clonidine for withdrawal symptoms. I’ve tried this before and was in a world of pain, not to mention severe anxiety. I don’t know what to do or how to treat my pain, Butrans is the only thing that’s ever helped my pain.

Clonidine should help, but the bigger issue is your doctor. That is a tiny dose and it is grossly unreasonable to discontinue it for no reason, unless I’m missing something in your medical history. I’d be looking for a new doctor.
