Hi. I\’m a 40 yr old female & I\’ve been a MMT patient since about September 2009. I transferred from a suboxone program bc I was pregnant. Now ALLLL these years later I\’m down to 40mg from 130mg at my highest. I\’m currently tapering 5mg every other week. Now the health issues, I\’m a gastric bypass patient, who ended up having an ulcer perforate my stomach lining, leading to sepsis and surgery. I still have gastric and ulcer issues. Also I\’m in the middle of a series of surgeries from an injury last August, necrotizing fasciitis which led to compartment syndrome. My right arm, which is my dominant, was affected from the elbow to hand, both sides were open wounds needing wound vac services, a skin graph and now attempting to fix the botched first closure incision scar. AND LET US NOT FORGET THE SLEW OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. Like all addicts, I suffer emotional problems, including anxiety and severe depression. I know it\’s alot but for once in almost 15 years, I want to be opiate free. I\’m sorry, but at this point I feel like I either need to get off or I\’m just going to be on it for the rest of my life. PLEASE help!! My clinic is little to no help, I\’ve reached many times.
Alysa, My suggestion is that you seek out a psychiatrist that is also board certified in addiction medicine rather than dealing with all of your medical issues through MMT. I private practice in coordination with your primary care provider is probably better equipped to coordinate care for all the issues you are dealing with.
