Simon, Howie and Mitch (and Dan and Art and Margo and Ken)

Over recent years, the pain community has lost several incredibly stellar clinicians all of whom dedicated their lives to caring for patients with chronic pain syndromes. Here to memorialize their contributions and lifelong advocacy for patients is another preeminent scholar, researcher, and patient advocate, Dr. Steven Passik. Thank you Dr. Passik, for sharing this heartfelt dedication…

Sung to the tune of Abraham, Martin and John written by D. Holler (1968) and Sung by Dion.

Today, 2/22/19, the 2nd anniversary of the untimely death of Ken Kirsh, I wanted to remember and honor him and so many of the wonderful colleagues we have recently lost including Simon Budman, PhD; Howie Smith, MD, Mitchell Max, MD, Dan Brookoff, MD, Arthur Lipman, PharmD, Margo McCaffery, MS, and Ken Kirsh, PhD.

Has anybody here seen my old friend Simon

Can you tell me where he’s gone?

He helped relieve the pain of a lot of people, but it seems the good die young

But I just looked around and he’s gone

Has anybody here seen my old friend Howie

Can you tell me where he’s gone?

He helped relieve the pain of a lot of people, but it seems the good die young

But I just looked around and he’s gone

Has anybody here seen my old friend Mitch

Can you tell me where he’s gone?

He helped relieve the pain of a lot of people, but it seems the good die young

But I just looked around and he’s gone

Has anybody here seen my old friend Dan

Can you tell me where he’s gone?

He helped relieve the pain of a lot of people, but it seems the good die young

But I just looked around and he’s gone

Didn’t you just love the things they stood for?

Didn’t they try to find some relief for yours and mine?

And we’ll be free

Someday soon it’s gonna be one day

Has anybody here seen my old friend Art

Can you tell me where he’s gone?

He helped relieve the pain of a lot of people, but it seems the good die young

But I just looked around and he’s gone

Has anybody here seen my old friend Margo

Can you tell me where she’s gone?

He helped relieve the pain of a lot of people, but it seems the good die young

But I just looked around and she’s gone

Has anybody here seen my old friend Ken

Can you tell me where he’s gone?

I thought I saw him walking up over the hill

With Simon, Howie, Mitch, Dan, Art and Margo
